TECHNICAL FAQ
Q> What macronutrient levels are recommended for aerobic bioremediation?

A> Nitrogen and phosphorus are the most important macronutrients for aerobic bioremediation. Commonly cited ratios of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus for building cell mass are C:N:P=1:0.2:0.02. Given this ratio, if the concentration of a petroleum contaminant in ground water is 1 mg/l, the nitrogen and phosphorus requirements are approximately 0.2 and 0.02 mg/l respectively. This is a broad generalization that assumes the mass of a hydrocarbon is 90% carbon, which is true for most gasoline constituents, and therefore is a reliable rule of thumb for most situations.
